I have not had time to really plan a christmas dinner this year as my daughter has been in the hospital this week. I have a ham and a turkey, but I am trying to decide what to make with them.

I’m going to my mother in laws (she’s making a turkey) I’m going to make cheesy potatoes and salad, of course this would probably go better with ham, you can also make green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, pasta salad ( I have a really good recipe that uses creamy Italian dressing, let me know if ya’d like it!) we had cherry cobbler and apple crisp for desert this Thanksgiving. You can pretty much have whatever ya want there are no "rules" as to that ya have to have..the ham you can slice and smother with BBQ sauce..

This will be my first christmas in my own place and I can decorate it completely by myself, but with my own place comes a very tight budget, what are some ideas for decorating (tree, outside, dining room etc….)

Okay, easy. Go find a cedar tree in the woods, easily done by driving into the country, also gather pine cones, cut pine from tree, cut some holly from a bush and cut some magnolia if possible. Use all this throughout your house with only buying some ribbon to make boews. String popcorn and cranberries for your tree plus go to local pre-schools and ask children to make you some decorations for you tree. Cheap, elegant and simple.

I know its early and all, but Im doing it for a friend. We want multicolored lights and white. Any ideas would be M-azing. Mucho Gracias!
We cant changed the colored lights its cheesy but tradition.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I love the colored lights and snow flake idea!!

on your christmas tree (real or artificial) you can put cotton or some white stuff on the tree to give it the effect that it has been snowing. (you can buy some fake snow at your local department store). then decorate the tree with multi coloured lights and it will look like it is a winter wonderland!! also some white shiny balls would look so nice! don’t forget to put a white skirt at the bottom of your tree so it will disguise the stand and catch the cotton "snow" if it falls.

It’s my turn to bring appetizers for Christmas. I was thinking of doing fried ravioli, but I need something else. Something different, but not too "out there". There will be 30 people.

Fonduta Gamberi (sort of like an artichoke spinach dip but way way more sophisticated- includes white wine, shrimp and peppers) Serve with dippers.

——————————————————————————–

Ingredients

2 C. half-and-half
1 Tbsp. clam juice
2 Tbsp. dry white wine
3 Tbsp. butter
1 shallot, finely chopped
2 Tbsp. flour
4 C. rough chopped spinach
1 C. canned artichoke hearts, chopped
8 large shrimp, peeled, cleaned and chopped
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper (more to taste)
1/8 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1/2 C. shredded Mozzarella cheese, optional

In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine half-and-half, clam juice and white wine.

In a separate saucepan, melt butter. Add shallots and sauté until translucent. Add flour to butter mixture, stirring until flour is absorbed. Cook, stirring constantly, 2-3 minutes.

Add heated half-and-half mixture all at once to the shallot mix, stirring constantly with a wire whip to remove any lumps. Add spinach, artichokes, shrimp, cayenne and black pepper and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and simmer 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, so the mixture does not scorch.

Remove mixture from heat, and stir in cheese, if desired. Pour dip into bowl and serve hot.

My 2 year old sis usually has some potatoes, some small bites of chicken, a little salad, and some fruit. Basically she just picks off what everyone else is eating. As long as there’s a little variety so she can pick and choose, she’s happy as a clam.

I’m starting to think about ideas for Christmas decor. I love the country/rustic type of Christmas decor. I think this year I am going to make a popcorn strand for the tree. Anyone have any other ideas that are quite easy that relate to this theme? Even simple ideas are welcome! Thanks!

a very country looking cotton plaid in dark greens, reds and blues keeps coming to mind. It would look well on your tree in the form of simple bows made from fabric strips cut with a pinking shears, and centered with a little spray of cranberries. Real gingerbread men as ornaments. miniature bushel baskets you have aged by tea dying or dry brushing with an antiquing gel can be suspended from the plaid bows and filled with mini pine cones. You could also make some miniature stocking ornaments from the plaid fabric.by cutting them out with pinking shears and leaving the seam allowance on the outside(less work and more charm) and stuffing them for dimension. Tiny dark red and green knitted mittens can sometimes be found in craft stores this time of year and make cute additions to the theme of the tree. Make a cranberry strand to accompany the popcorn strand. Have a Merry Country Christmas!

What style of ornaments to use. Maybe a theme? What colors are in this year? Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Black, white, and silver are very in this year. Lots of ornaments are made of clear glass with black/white things inside them. Definitely do white lights if you go that route.

Another thing that’s in is organic stuff– dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, and pine cones.

I am making rack of lamb for Christmas. Does anybody have any good suggestions that will go with that? It’s only dinner for two so I don’t want to make too much. Maybe two sides and that’s it. Thanks!

MUSHROOMS ALFREDO

1 pkg. Gourmet Stuffing mushrooms
3 or 4 green onions
2 tbsp. butter
1 pkg. Knorr Alfredo mix
1 lb. fresh crab meat or 1/2 lb. imitation crab meat

Remove stems from mushrooms. Discard stems. Prepare Alfredo sauce as directed. Chop green onions and saute in butter. Add crab meat to onion and butter. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine in bowl crab meat mixture and Alfredo sauce. Stuff mushrooms with mixture. Place mushrooms in buttered Pyrex dish. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. For crispy coating on top, after cooked place in broiler for a few minutes.
If you wish about 5 minutes before done, sprinkle with Parmesan or Romano cheese.

My boyfriend and are going to decorate together this year. I have 2 boys and he has one and we will be celebrating our first Christmas together as one big family. Does anyone have any really nice, meaningful decorations we could use to paint the picture of blessed, happy family?

Thanks

When my kids were little I started to paint my windows, the glass. I purchased powdered tempra paints in the primary colors and then mixed for other colors. I drew pictures on the glass with black sharpie marker (the nonpermanent did not work, bubbled up) from kids coloring books or from my immagination and then with the kids we painted in the designs. We had such fun and the kids said it was like coloring a giant coloring book. Removal is pretty easy, windex and alot of paper toweling depending on the size of your work of art, takes off the marker too. I still paint for the holidays even though my kids are grown and gone, now I do it with my grandkids. You could create you new family’s own mural for the holidays and personalize it for each child.
